FPP film developing / scan services for vintage, expired Super 8 film. Film is processed, scanned, color-corrected and saved as a file to a USB thumb drive. PLEASE READ ALL THE INFO ON THIS PAGE BEFORE PURCHASING. 

Each item selected is for (1) 50 foot vintage roll of Super 8 film

Whether you have found a family members undeveloped film or you bought a roll expired movie film on ebay (recommended only as a way to test your camera - not to shoot and have developed), the FPP is at your service to attempt to salvage images from these old film. 

Note that due to its age, the film color may be greatly shifted or there may be no image at all. Kodachrome film can only be processed as BW negative. Services are non-refundable and we can not guarantee success.

Our handy drop down (choose resolution tab "add-to-cart" above) is based on each 50 foot roll of film you send for scanning.

  • Film Developing
  • Film Prep (prep for scan - once developed)
  • Film scan - We can scan your film 16x9 Full Frame. By scanning full frame, you will be able to see all of the image on your film including the film sprockets (see picture below).
  • Choose Output to HD (1920x1080), 2k (2048x1556) or 4k (4096x3112) resolution. Supply thumb drive or purchase FPP thumb drive here. (If you need a larger file, please contact Michael at the e-mail address above)

Note: Turnaround time is typically 4 - 6 weeks. Longer if we have high scan volume. 


What to do:

  • Place order via this page.
  • Send your film along with one USB thumb drive to The FPP. (A 128gb drive is recommended. If you don’t have a thumb drive, you can purchase one from The FPP here.) The shipping fee in your shopping cart is for the return of your materials. You are responsible for shipping your materials to The FPP. Please include your order number, name and address with film.

After you receive your movie file we recommend that you back-up your data immediately to additional hard drive. Please DO NOT throw away your film! Your film will outlast any data file.

Edit Your Movies! Edit your movie to add music, sound effects, voice over, etc. Most computers have included editing software like Windows Movie Maker or Mac i-movie. Again, remember to always back up your data to another drive for safe storage.

The Fine Print - When you submit your film assets to Film Photography Project (FPP) for scanning or handling of any kind you agree to the fullest extent of the law to  indemnify, defend, and hold harmless FPP, its officers, directors, employees, agents, licensors, and suppliers from and against all claims, losses, liabilities and damages of any kind, including, without limitation, attorneys’ fees, arising from or relating in any way to your use of our services, or any violation of these Terms, any law, or any rights of any third party, including when the active or passive negligence of  FPP is alleged or proven.

Shooter Error - Fact is, we see lots of film that has issues due to user error and malfunctioning vintage cameras. Under exposure, over exposure, jiggly frame lines due to bad film gate, blank film are just some issues. In this case we will e-mail you if we see an issue. If you decide not to move forward with scanning, we will offer you FPP store credit for the unused scanning portion of your payment.

The Lab - We would like you to be aware that we partner with one or more reputable outside labs for the processing portion of your package. For this portion of services, we only offer replacement of raw materials in case of transit loss or lab damage. If you are working on an important project, we recommend Production Insurance.

Sh*t Happens - Your media is very important to you, and we take every precaution to ensure the safety of your film while they are at our facility.  However, sometimes the unpredictable happens during shipping to and from our facility, or while a service is being provided.  Our commitment to you, is that if any item is lost or damaged by us while at our facility, we will replace it with an item of equivalent amount.  To ensure you are protected above and beyond our replacement of the raw materials, we strongly suggest you acquire insurance.  To ensure you are protected during the shipping of the items, please insure your packages. We can not replace the value of items that are lost in transit.
