Black & White Infrared Film

Black and white (BW) infrared film is a type of film that has special sensitivity to infrared light, allowing the photographer to capture infrared light waves that are normally invisible. The result is a unique look with different tones and contrast, where green foliage appears white.

Here are some tips for shooting with BW infrared film: 

• Use an infrared filter: An infrared lens filter, such as an R72, blocks out visible light and allows infrared light to pass through. 
• Choose the right day: For best results, shoot on a day when the sun is bright, but there may be some clouds. 
• Include certain elements: Look for scenes that include water, a blue sky, green vegetation, and stone. 
• Use a camera with manual focus: A camera with a manual focus lens is recommended. 
  Use a tripod: A tripod is recommended. 
• Use a remote shutter release: A remote shutter release or cable release is strongly recommended. 

BW infrared film was developed during World War I to improve aerial intelligence photography. It's now used in aerial survey applications, such as forestry and vegetation surveys.
