Film Washi S 120 BW Sound Recording Film
120 / 1 Roll / iso 50
Film “S” is used by motion picture professionals for sound recording, which requires a very fine grain and ultra-high definition. This sharpness is guaranteed by a special anti-halation layer located between the film's base and the emulsion layer (as opposed to the back layer as with ordinary films). Film “S” is a panchromatic specialty film available in 120 - 50 ISO (also available in 35mm). Film Washi recommends this film for when you want the combination of almost no grain and very high contrast. Tips on loading and usage can be found on the product spec page here.
This film stock is subject to "light piping" when exposed to room light. Please load in dim light and store in a dark camera bag before and after shooting. If storing your film in fridge, freezer or home shelf, store in a light tight bag as well. What is light piping? Read our blog by Leslie Lazenby. Film Washi is an experimental film. Your results are not guaranteed.
Michael Raso says: the amazing thing about this film is that it was designed to record audio, not pictures! It was considered state-of-the-art during the Frank Sinatra heyday of the 1960s. A few of Frank’s (ahem, “Mr. Sinatra’s”) albums jackets boast “recorded on 35mm film!”. This film is also the Oreo of films! The anti-hilation layer is sandwiched between two other layers of emulsion – amazing!
