SHOCKING TUNES - The J.R. Bookwalter Experience (1980s Synth) - Compact Disc

“Synth Waves from Space” is composed and produced by Michael Raso, with vocal contributions from Desiree Saetia and original art by Carlos W. Gonzales.

Album Description:
Before cult filmmaker J.R. Bookwalter became known for movies like The Dead Next Door and Robot Ninja, he was also experimenting with electronic music, synthesizers, drum machines and decidedly DIY home recording.

Shocking Tunes collects 18 tracks written and recorded primarily between 1986 and 1990, when Bookwalter was creating music alongside his early filmmaking adventures. Beginning with a Casio keyboard and homemade tape-to-tape multitracking, J.R. eventually graduated to a Yamaha DX-100 synthesizer, RX-21 drum machine and multitrack recording gear - composing songs, instrumentals and film music along the way.

Pulled from vintage analog masters, demos and J.R.'s original 1988 Potpourri cassette compilation, Shocking Tunes is a wonderfully eccentric musical companion to the world of Shocking Shorts - a time capsule of DIY filmmaking, electronic music and the anything-goes creativity of the Super 8 era.
